On Wednesday 16 September, starting at 11 am in the Botanical Theatre, the international workshop Mobilising Algae: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Algae Herbaria Across Space and Time will bring together scholars to explore the role of algae herbaria in scientific research, the conservation of botanical heritage and the enhancement of historical collections. The event will welcome researchers from Italian and international universities, museums and research institutions to discuss current research perspectives and the potential of these invaluable repositories of biodiversity.

Algae herbaria preserve not only specimens collected across different places and periods, but also evidence of scientific practices, collaborative networks and the circulation of knowledge that have shaped research over time. Through Italian and international case studies, the workshop will explore their value as both scientific and cultural heritage, addressing topics such as the development of collections, digitisation, conservation and the enhancement of algological museum collections. Particular attention will be given to algae herbaria as meeting points between the natural sciences and the humanities, offering new perspectives on the relationships between humans, algae and the environment.

The workshop will be held entirely in English. Participation is free of charge upon registration via the form available on this page.
